I watched the Dog Whisperer for the first time back in March of 2010. What he said about dogs has stuck with me all this time. He says dogs need:
- Exercise
- Discipline
- Affection
And in that order.
So, walk your dogs. Even if they are tiny little dogs that live in a big house, and it seems like they get plenty of exercise running through the house. They still like to get out in the world and see new things, according to Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer.
Discipline your dogs. Just like a child, dogs need rules. Don’t be mean about it, don’t yell in frustration, just be firm. Be the leader of the pack. Even if the pack is just you and your dog.
Remember that your dog can “pick up on your vibes”. For example, if you are nervous, the dog will react, possibly nervously, or in other unacceptable ways. So just be calm, relaxed, and in control. Let your dog know who is boss.
And last, but not least, after you have exercised them, and disciplined them, give them affection. Hug ‘em, pet ‘em, play with ‘em.
