Founded in 2011, Warrior Canine Connection has helped countless Veterans and puppies find purpose together. Their facility in Maryland is filled with volunteers, trainers, and loving hands helping these pups become the heroes they’re meant to be. Training the Puppies
When these puppies are about ten weeks old, they head off to live with a family that will help them begin their journey toward becoming a service dog. Using positive reinforcement (lots of treats, praise, and encouragement), these families teach the puppies the skills they will need to help a Veteran one day.
Over the course of two years, these eager learners will master around 80 different commands, gaining the confidence and calmness needed to support their future partners.
Helping Veterans in Two Ways
Warrior Canine Connection’s dogs help Veterans in more ways than you might imagine. Veterans are part of the puppies’ lives from the very beginning, helping to socialize and train them using patience and kindness. This partnership helps those Veterans by building their confidence, easing anxiety, and creating purpose through their connection with the dogs.
Once these puppies graduate to become official service dogs, they help other Veterans navigate daily challenges, providing comfort during stressful situations and offering a steady, loving presence that makes Veterans feel safe, needed, and loved.
